About
What is DAIKAGURA?
DAIKAGURA is one of Japan’s most traditional performing arts with a history spanning more than 400 years. It originally was a form of entertainment dedicated to the gods of Shinto shrines, but became popularized in the late 19th century when it began appearing in entertainment halls and theaters.
A kimono and using only simple props, such as knives, a teapot, a ball and a Japanese umbrella, Kouki dazzles audiences of all ages with his amazing feats of balance and skill!
KOKI’s DAIKAGURA show is・・・
My show places emphasis on entertainment, arranging Japanese traditional arts in contemporary style.
Especially the most difficult technique in DAIKAGURA, the acrobatic of the teapot is the most impressive highlight.
DAIKAGURA
“DAIKAGURA” is a Japanese traditional performing arts group formed under the initiative of Koki Houraiya, the Daikagura performer residing in Minato Ward, Osaka.
Daikagura originally began as a sacred performance to entertain the gods and pray for good harvests and protection from misfortune, but over time, it also became a community event that strengthened social bonds through entertainment.
Young performers who will lead the next generation of Japan’s traditional performing arts have gathered at Daikagura as a community event, “DAIKAGURA” has been born.
We are passionately committed to pursue entertainment that can be appreciated around the world while preserving the beauty of Japan’s traditional performing arts.
